Interracial dating is still a controversy, in the United States. Since this country is based upon racial boundaries, it only makes it harder to date outside your race. The United States of America is black or white, with tension forever. It doesn’t seem to be the land of the free, while you couldn’t even marry outside your race until recent years. It’s also obvious opposites attract or it could be the curiosity of something different. How can this black skin feel against my ivory?
Dating someone of a different race shouldn’t be a sensitive issue, in 2013. If your walking with the palest male while you’re the darkest female, stares still are apparent along with whispers. Ignorant onlookers have the tendency to assume the worst, rather than respect the love between two people. Fear and jealousy can be a result. What will my family think brining home a Puerto Rican, knowing that my family hails from Jamaica? With race come class issues that most traditional families can’t see past.
An attraction between any two people can’t be resisted. We attract whom we attract, based on emotions, which are our own. Others don’t understand the concept behind true love. Staying within your race makes things easier and safer, but love isn’t always that.
Opposing to that, people date other races immorally. “He’s white, he got money and my kids are going to have good hair” How many times have you heard that amongst your black friends? White women assume every black male is Mandingo so that’s often their reason for crossing over too. Then you have the black males dating Spanish women because of their 3 c’s (cleaning, cratering, cooking). With those mind frames, it creates this stigma, leaning towards the controversy.
Loving someone period is based on that, not what your culture depicts. Loving is the freest part of life, you can’t control it, it can’t be taken away, and no one can stop you from loving while it seems the odds are against. Will interracial dating ever not be a topic? Have you ever dated outside your race? Was it beneficial? Curiosity?
