What I found most interesting about Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis, was the fact he began and completed his entire album in only two months. I have not ever heard of any artist doing this incredible act prior. It is so surreal because it is one of the world greatest jazz albums making this a pure classic. Listening to this album for the last time I am realizing how it could have been possible during the late 1950s, with live instruments and zero lyrics it gives the effect of almost being done instantly. I find this strategy very attractive.
Although his music did get repetitive excluding my favorite song “Blue in Green” his talent is extremely evident. It is a shame I don’t have an interest to continue to listen to anymore. I do wish there were more artists in the mainstream like him today. A lot of music today is not music at all with its auto tunes, computer beats, everything is made up. The natural feeling music is suppose to give off is not a factor anymore. Just look at a lot of artist today, it has become a generation of appearance compared to the talent. Cannot even perform live because all their music is so tweaked we would not even know their real voice!
It would always be a pleasure in getting the scoop from the musician himself. Of course in this scenario we could not because he has passed. What was going through your mind when you played this music? I just would just love to know exactly what he had experienced for his titles because his music was non lyrical. Since this was right before the civil rights movements, how was it working with other races to place together a masterpiece? That to me is the best part about music, its judgmental free, no prejudice a natural setting for everyday life which makes all people relate.
As mixed as my feelings are still about this repetitive feeling I gain, I see myself doing the same with my expressions. I rate the overall album, a five. It is marvelous for the feeling it gives me listening, sensual happy and annoyed all at the same time. I really appreciate its realism for its time 1959.
